Petra Larson is approaching fifty, her life until a few years ago was one car crash after another and a long painful recovery from each. She has settled in Boston USA now, having escaped from England before any further collisions with life became terminal. That was ten years before and when she left, she took Anna, a young budding artistic with a burgeoning talent, with her.
She returns, possibly for the final time, intent on reflecting on her troubled life and meeting two dear friends she has known since her teens. The visit is eventful, life has moved on for each of the trio, although perhaps not so well for Dominique Vasson, “Dommy”, a French woman Petra met first at international level as a teenage karate protégé. Another, Cerys Hughes she met at university and it was through her, Petra got a taste for a lifestyle which while lucrative, was fraught with danger and eventually led to her being raped and beaten in a hotel room.
The visit becomes tetchy, Dommy has changed, she seems bitter and resentful and her mood swings back and forth. Petra finds a shocking cause which puts her future relationship in jeopardy together with that of Willow, a young woman who is now Dommy’s partner. It also places the financial viability of a business Petra owns at risk.
Then, just as Petra prepares to leave with Anna and return to a new challenging job in Boston, an unwanted blast from her past threatens to reopen the healed wounds, still visible, just like the faded scars on her back which resulted from the brutal attack nearly thirty years earlier.
Closure does become closure later upon her return, but you’ll have to read almost to the final pages to have its shocking conclusion revealed. Closure is a sequel to the Petra Larson series of books which plots the voyage her rollercoaster life took until she finally settled three thousand away miles from her place of birth. Each book in the series 1-5 often starkly exposes her life and that of her closest friends in forensic detail. How it ends is for you to find out.
When heartbreak finally waves goodbye..
